FWB

I’ve been that sassy, pink-loving, sparkle-obsessed girly-girl since I could walk. I started arguing about my outfits with my Mom when I was three. The more bows, ruffles, or rhinestones you could put on something, the better. I’ve always believed that when it comes to expressing yourself, more is more.

I’ve also worked for two of the most respected investment banks on Wall Street for the past 15 years. I run a team of 20 people, almost all of whom are men. And unfortunately, being girly and sparkly doesn’t match up with everyone’s image of capable and competent. Can you really take her seriously if her blazer is pink?

Yes, you can. Some might have said I was precocious when I was little, overconfident or outspoken when I was older, but I’ve never been afraid or apologetic about being a leader and striving for success. It’s not about being bossy, just being a boss.

But while my career is important to me, I've been fortunate enough to have amazing parents who have shaped my life and created a value system based on family, community, service, and love: a combination of down-to-earth Midwestern spirit and Southern Hospitality. They taught me that one of the best ways to express love and hospitality is through personalized, unique gifts - and if I could make them myself and bring joy to others - even better!  It started with cards, then scrapbooks, then quilts, and eventually sweaters embroidered with words chosen just for the people receiving them.

So I started FWB - to pay homage to my parents, my background, and my passions.  To create a way for everyone to make their own statement.  To spread their love to other people.  To crash the glass my own way.  You can be a girl. You can wear princess dresses and combat boots and go out there and change the world.  In fact, you can do that and wear whatever you darn want.  It’s not about the clothes.  It’s about remembering where you’re from, what you love, and what you stand for.  And to have a little fun while you’re doing it, preferably all wrapped up in a super soft cashmere sweater.
